BLUEHILLBILL – “BRICKS”

This joint unites a trio of Boston’s finest, and one of them is Chow Films, aka Chairman Chow. A multi-talented freak of nature, they’ve been behind most of the best music videos out of The 617 for a long damn time now. This joint is no exception, a cinematic, carefully composed, expertly color-graded final print. This expertise is why his reach has grown up and down the East coast over the past five years: rare is the hitman who always delivers.

Obviously, the song also bangs.

BLUEHILLBILL has been impossible to avoid over the past year, no easy feat in a crab-bucket New England scene where most of your peers would rather die than acknowledge your existence. His nasal alto invites comparisons but his flow eludes them all. Once you get past that, the intricacy of his pen game is immediately obvious: this motherfucker can cut a bar something sweet, and his inner metronome never misses. It does hiccup, stutter, swing, and dotted triplet dance all over any beat, though, and that shit is a joy to listen to. I am a fan.

Finally, we have Grubby Pawz. Again. Word to Christ Jesus, I am tired of writing about this guy. Suffice it to say he is one of the best Boston beatsmiths to ever do it, serving up a distinctive mix of familiar classics and new surprises, year after year after year. Also, his Youtube channel is top tier: no cutesy influencer pageantry, just an artist in the lab talking about his obsession.

So in closing, fuck all of these dudes. The audacity of their achievements is, frankly, disgusting. Can you imagine trying to be an honest hater in the face of such talent? Worse yet, their work ethic has them running laps around their city, too. Hard times for basic bitches in Boston! Everyone involved with this video should be ashamed of themselves for bullying their competition like this. Five Dickies.
